I was hoping to have a post for you today with my secret blogger swap package but unfortunately it hasn't arrived yet.  One of the downfalls of our postal system is how long it takes for items to clear customs sometimes but hopefully it will arrive quickly!  So instead I thought I would bring you an outfit post today from what I wore on Mother's Day and to my surprise 30th birthday party. 

For Mother's Day I booked a breakfast for my Mom and my mother in law to at our local Cora's.  This was my sister Carla's idea, or so I thought.  It was really a poly to get me out of the house so they could come in and get everything ready for a surprise party.  My husband had been away for 3 days before for work, so we needed to get groceries and he knew this would be the case.  So he planned to have them come in and clean and get everything ready after we went out to breakfast and off for groceries.  Little did I know that I was in on the plan by planning the breakfast out!  I was truly surprised when I came home as my birthday wasn't until Tuesday and my husband was so thoughtful by inviting many of my friends and family over for the party.  It was a great afternoon filled with food, laughts and best of all birthday cake.  Thanks so much honey for a wonderful 30th birthday!

The Retail Life

The retail life is a website I first discovered through twitter.  This is a place to share and connect for retail work.  However, they also offer great rewards for members.  Every Wedneday they have a retweet to win contest, and the correct number retweet wins a $5 starbucks giftcard.  I was a winner of one of these cards and can't wait to receive mine (this is how I discovered the site)!  Who doesn't love a little starbucks!  They also have punch tab rewards and each time you log in you can click on the red rewards banner and can earn points towards visa gift cards and starbucks gift cards.  They also have a Member Referral program and for every 10 people that you refer to The Retail Life and who activate their membership, you receive a $10 Visa Gift Card. Also, every month one member who has loaded a profile picture to their personal profile will win a $10 Visa gift card.  The site also has a forum where you can post a link to your blog, view jobs, what's hot now in fashion,  sales and promotions, and new products.   You can follow them on twitter @TheRetailLife or visit their website at http://www.theretaillife.com/

Meaningful Beauty - A Review

Meaningful beauty is a line of skin care products designed by Cindy Crawford.  When I was contacted and asked if I would like to try a sample I was a bit hesitant as I suffer from sensitive skin and psoraisis.  After discussing the product with my doctor we decided that the Antioxident Day Creme would be safe for me to try (always consult your doctor before trying a new product, especially if you have skin issues).

Meaningful Beauty Antioxidant Day Creme

This creme has an SPF of 20 designed to shield against UVA/UVB and is an anti-wrinkle creme.  The anti-aging ingredients help to clarify, brighten and even skin tone. This creme has a breakthrough antioxidant complex with a botanical blend that helps hydrate and revitalize skin.   What I really like about this creme is the high SPF.  That is one feature that I find hard to find in a creme.  I do find that I need to use quite a bit of the lotion to cover my face due to the thickness of it, however I feel that this is because of the high SPF.  Also, when you first apply the lotion is leaves a bit of an oily residue but that goes away within an hour.  The scent is also not over powering which is nice. 

I have been using this lotion for about 3 weeks now, and my skin does feel soft and hydrated but in terms of the anti-wrinkle I am not seeing a difference yet.  The Meaningful Beauty website says results should be seen in 6 weeks, so I am going to give it more time.  To find out more about their full line of skin care products please visit their website.

I wore this outfit last week to meet up with Emma for coffee and to deliver to her some shoes that I got for her at Mardens.   I decided to wear heels with this outfit however that turned out to be not such a great idea.   After our coffee date I was walking uptown and caught my heel on a piece of side walk that was falling apart, I fell and ripped these jeans.  These were my favorite jeans so now I am on the hunt for a new pair of skinnies.

However, despite the rip in my jeans, the beautiful  earrings I am wearing with this outfit were sent to me by Anjolee to review.  The thing I love about these earrings is that they can be worn casually or can dress up an outfit.  They also come in a lovely box and I gasped when I opened the package because they are so beautiful.  Anjolee is a great website for jewellery as you can customize any piece to your liking and budget.  I may have spent a little bit of time playing around on that site J.  They also carry other beautiful jewellery such as tennis bracelets, all different shapes and sizes of diamond studs and beautiful diamond engagement rings.   These earrings are also perfect for me right now as my little girl loves to grab anything that is dangly so studs are perfect and what a better way to make a mama feel beautiful!  I will be wearing these lots!

Shoes of the Week

Two weeks ago hubby was away for a conference for work so Adele and I went and spent the weekend with my parents.  Whenever I go and visit I always take a shopping trip to Calais, Maine, as my parents live on the Canada/US border.  My Mom and I always have a great time when we go shopping and so we took a trip to Marden's on the Friday afternoon.  Marden's can be hit or miss sometimes but this time we certainly got a great deal.  The first section we always go to is the shoes.  While we were browsing we heard the ladies that work there say they were marking all the $5 winter shoes down to $1!!!  Yes you read that right, $1!!  We found some great pairs, there were only a few sizes but my mom and I did each manage to get 2 pairs in our size.  The shoes we got are by Caressa and currently retail on endless.com for $65.  I got 2 pairs of these shoes, one in black and one in a nude colour as I thought they would be great for work!

1.  What makes Rowena's a unique store in uptown Saint John?

There are a couple things that sets Rowena's apart from other uptown stores. First we started out as a high-end consignment shop but switched over to completely new items last September. We wanted to maintain that uniqueness so we bring in only one or two of an item so that you do not see your outfit walking down the street. We order a great selection for all ages and sizes, including plus sizes, which is not always associated with boutique shopping.  We have extremely reasonable pricing which allows for a wide variety of customers. We also do Rowena's At-Home Parties, as far as I know we are the only uptown retailer to do that. We will bring our store to your home or work! They are a hit!

2.  What is your specialty item/items?

It's hard to pick a specific Specialty Item due to our buying and ordering process. We try to order a bit of everything and different styles to accomodate everyone.  We target the everyday woman, the gal who goes to work in the office but enjoys a bit of fun out with friends at night.

3. What is your favorite thing in store right now?

My favorite thing?  hmmmm....Realistically I love everything. If I had to choose though, there is a super cute pair of blush colored Steve Madden flipflops taunting me. They even have a bow! So adorable!

 4.  What is your favorite thing about birthdays?

Well this is my Birthday Month too, as you know.   The thing I love about Birthdays is that you can be completely selfish and use the "but it's my birthday" line when the subject of housework comes up. There is nothing better for a birthday present than having your man clean the house!  (and the cake of course)

The name is from the Sex and the City Episode where Carrie Bradshaw enters into the Vogue accessories closet, and seeks out a pair of Manolo Blahnik high heeled black patent Mary Jane shoes, and excitedly exclaims "I thought these were an Urban Shoe Myth?!"

 2.       Tell us about some of the fabulous shoes you carry. 

We carry some fantastic shoe lines!  With well known brands like Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Coach, to fun and funky brands like Miz Mooz, Fly London, and Dolce Vita, and classics from Hunter, Camper and Frye.  We are continually seeking out new lines and funky styles to bring to the city.

Oh, that's like trying to pick your favorite flavor of ice cream - it differs every day!  Right now I am loving platforms and a chunkier heel, like those made by Seychelles.  And you can never go wrong with a wedge - totally wearable for a girl on her feet all day!

4.       What is your favorite thing about birthdays? 

Now that I am in my, eh hem, thirties, my favorite part of birthdays is getting together with my family and friends.  We are all so busy, that it gives us a great excuse to take some time out together.  And my kids (ages 2 and 5) get so excited for anyone's birthdays!  It makes it fun all over again!

1.  How did you come up with the name Je Suis Prest Boutique?

Je Suis Prest (I am ready) is the traditional Scottish clan motto of the Frasers. 'Prest' is the ancient spelling of the modern day 'pret' meaning ready. I grew up highland dancing and very close to my Scottish heritage, so it only made sense to carry it through to something else I loved.

2.  Tell us a little bit about your shop and the clothes you carry.

We carry a wide variety of styles and sizes from all over the country and even the world. We specialize in any thing that's unique, different and trendy. We only get in between 3-6 pieces of each style and will never repeat a style. We get a lot of deliveries often, our stock changes over frequently so there's always something new to see! We love to be unique and know the ladies who shop here do too!

3.  What is your favorite trend right now?

My favorite trend right now.... clothes in general?! or all of them!? If I had to pick one it would probably patterned and floral pants. They're so fun for Spring and are so much brighter than normal jeans. Paired with a thin sweater or a casual tank, they're a perfect transition piece.

4.  What is your favorite thing about birthdays?

My favorite thing about birthdays.... hmm.... ice cream cake! I'm not a fan of any cake except ice cream cake. It's my favorite and my birthday's a great excuse to eat a HUGE slice guilt free! :)

Birthday Giveaway #2: Darling Dilemma

Well my nickname from a young age was Emma Dilemma...there is debate about weither it was my Uncle Greg who first called me this, or my babysitter but regardless I have to assume it was a well earned moniker.

 As opposed to making mulitples of one or two styles, I try to make one of a kind creations. I like the idea that each piece is almost like a piece of art. I suppose it is my art school training but I crave uniqueness in my wardrobe and acccessories. Of course approaching jewelry making like art making means that I am inspired by all sorts of things from my life...my mother's garden, the beach, music, seasons...

3. What is your favorite kind of jewellery/accessories to wear?
Necklaces. Always necklaces! Big bold statement pieces mostly.  I find with my big wild hair, earrings are rarely seen but a funky necklace always attracts attention.  I love huge rings too.  The thing about large bold accessories is that they can make even the most ordinary outfit into something fabulous.

4. What is your favorite thing about birthdays?
Well not the getting older part, but pretty much everything else! A great party, pretty wrapping paper on fantastic gifts...cupcakes! Also, since moving to New Brunswick, one or both of my parents have tried to make a birthday visit out to visit. It has made birthday's that much more special now!

Birthday Giveaway #1: Piece O'Cake Custom Creations!

1.  How did you come up with the name Piece O'Cake Custom Creations?

I came up with the name after searching for some catchy names and Piece O'Cake seemed like the most suitable name , then adding custom creations to it since I did a lot of custom designs.

2.  What made you want to open up a cake shop in uptown Saint John?

We opened the cake shop after becoming so popular with our fans on facebook and the encouragement of our fans led us to open the shop. Uptown location seemed to fit most.

3.  What is your favorite flavor of cupcake and why?

My favourite flavour is hard to choose just because they are all like my babies, but I have to say its a toss up between the Lemon with cream cheese frosting(Cream cheese with a squeeze) or the Coconut one rolled in toasted coconut flakes! (Jamaican me crazy for coconut).

My favourite thing about birthdays is the look on peoples faces when they see a custom cake made  just for them for the first time.

 1.  Tell us about your blog

Like Melissa, I live and love and blog from the East Coast of Canada. I started my blog to keep our friends and family on the other side of the pond (Husband is British and I lived in England for 4 years) up to date on our lives. It's sort of evolved (devolved??) from there.  I'm a sucker for all things pretty, shiny, frilly and girly.  Most importantly I'm a wife, a fur-parent and a friend so expect a lot of personal photos and bragging about the crazy exploits of my golden retriever- Sadie, our new kitten- Spock and the cat who runs our lives- Trilly.

2.  What is your favorite trend right now?

I know colour blocking has been around for awhile now but I love it.  I never get sick of colour.  I love bright colours but I'm trying to convince myself to embrace some of the pastels that are so in for Spring/Summer.  I also love that leopard is now considered a neutral.  Leopard and teal? I think so!!

3.  What is one trend that you wish would go away and never come back.

Oh where to even start with this? I like pretty.  I struggle to embrace anything that isn't pretty even if it is fashion forward.  There has been entirely too much rats' nest hair the last little while.  Hair should be pretty and not straw-like!

4.  Who is your fashion icon?

I love really classical, lady-like fashion so Audrey Hepburn has always been a favourite.  Of course my figure and her figure don't exactly have anything in common!

5.  In your opinion, what is the one essential piece that each woman should have in her closet?

Really hot high heels that are completely impractical.  Every woman needs a pair of shoes that can kick any outfit up a notch, or two, or three.  My husband would point out that impractical heels are not my problem.... shoes that I can walk and stand in for more than about 30 minutes are what I need to get!

6.  Tell us one fun/interesting fact about yourself!

Suddenly I have no fun or interesting facts about myself.  Oh no! I must be completely boring.  One random fact about myself is that I had 17 addresses in three countries on two different continents during my 20s.

Shoes of the Week

Last week I had a chance to shop at one of my favorite stores in Calais, Maine; Mardens.  It is a great place to get shoes at a very reasonable price.  I wanted to share with you these Marc Fisher beauties that I got for $5.00!  They are leather and the colour is perfect for matching any outfit.  I normally am drawn to and wear heels, but I am quickly learning with the baby and having to lug a car seat/baby gear that flats are going to be a key part of my wardrobe.  I thought for the price that these ones would be a great place to start!

A couple of weeks ago my husband was away for a conference for work.  He got back from his trip around supper time on Saturday night so Saturday morning was a perfect opportunity for me and my sister to grab some breakfast, do some shopping and for me to drool over her new Michael Kors bag (so jealous!).  My little baby girl, Adele came along as well and was a great little shopper.  We hit up all our favorite local shops and then we were off to Old Navy where we got some great deals.  They had an extra 30% off all their clearance items that day as well as I had a coupon for another 30% off if you brought a reuseable bag!  What a great deal!
